The public institution, which currently supports a portfolio of more than US$24 billion in projects, is sponsoring Expo Andes 2022. InvestChile, the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency, is the government agency that proactively promotes and attracts to Chile the foreign capital that the country needs for its development. The agency, which in the first half of the year supported 453 projects of foreign companies, offers specific services and key information to support and facilitate the decision of investors. The agency reported that during the January-June period of this year, it registered a 22% increase in the number of projects it manages. In terms of amount – including investment projects in different stages of development – its portfolio reached US$ 24,762 million, an increase of 3.3% over the same period of the previous year. Similarly, the number of jobs associated with the projects managed by the agency reached 17,578 potential jobs, 49% more than in the same period last year. The director of InvestChile, Karla Flores, highlighted the growth in the number of projects, as the 22% drop that had been recorded in the first half of 2021 was reversed. “This occurs in a context in which the global economic situation makes the work of attracting capital extremely challenging and speaks of the interest that foreign companies have in developing their projects in Chile. The work of the InvestChile team in detecting, attracting and developing these initiatives also plays a fundamental role in this,” explained Flores. Currently, InvestChile’s work strategy is focused on three pillars: positioning foreign investment as an economic policy tool at the service of the national development strategy; encouraging foreign investment and its benefits to play an effective role in solving the urgent needs of Chilean men and women; and positioning Chile as a hub of opportunities for future investment. One of the national activities in which the Agency will participate this year will be the Mountain Development Exhibition and Congress, Expo Andes, to be held between October 12 and 14. On that occasion, representatives of InvestChile will participate in the workshop “How to invest in Chile”, developed in conjunction with the Undersecretary of Tourism, which aims to promote Chile as a destination for investment in mountain tourism.
